Zachary Levi’s Discrimination Controversy, Youtuber’s Cheating Ads, and Why The Trump Leaks Matter

Sup you beautiful bastards, hope you’re havin’ a Fantastic Tuesday welcome back to the Philip DeFranco show and let’s just jump into it the first thing we’re gonna talk about today I mean just the story selection makes me wonder why does my show ever go through states of monetization? trouble let’s talk about race and gender It’s two stories the first one starts in Toronto May of 2014 Emil Wickham And three friends went to celebrate his birthday at hung-chang Chinese restaurant in Toronto after they ordered the meal of the group was informed by staff that they would be required to pay before they ate they were told this was a policy that applied to all the patrons but When Wickham questioned other customers about whether they had to do this? He found that no one else and the restaurant had to they also realized that they were the only black diners in the restaurant so When the server later returned to the table Wickham and his friends questioned him about the policy and at that point the server reportedly admitted That they were the only ones in the restaurant who had prepaid. Then that waiter and other staff asked whether Wickham and his friends wanted A refund they took their money they left the restaurant. Wickham eventually lodges a complaint with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario It’s a governmental board that resolves discrimination and harassment claims and in his complaint He alleges that he and his friends have been racially Profiled by the staff at Hong Sheng. Nearly four years after this incident the Human Rights Tribunal ruled that yes the restaurant had in fact Discriminated against the group including that the restaurant staff had violated section 1 of the provinces Human Rights Code Which guarantees equal treatment when accessing good services and facilities. Writing, in essence, the applicant was presumed to be a potential thief in waiting despite any evidence to that effect. His mere presence As a black man in a restaurant was presumed to be sufficient evidence of his presumed propensity to engage in criminal behavior at its core Racial profiling as a form of shorthand that enables the perpetrator of the behavior to assume certain facts and ignore others while the restaurant employees Did not attend this hearing a lawyer for the company did and they argued that this prepayment policy was for people that weren’t Regulars saying because of its location the restaurant attracts something of a transient crowd and unfortunately it was very common in the past the customers quote dine and dash I think there was never any intent to discriminate against the applicants all customers were not known to be regulars are treated the same way That explanation was dismissed because reportedly there was no evidence such a policy actually Existed there was no evidence that other patrons that were there that night were regulars or that Wickham’s party was advised of the policy in advance and so the restaurant has been ordered to pay Wickham ten thousand dollars in damages in response to this decision the owner of the Restaurant Collin Lee issued a statement saying he was deeply concerned about the situation Noting this took place four years ago when the restaurant was under different management But also noting that this outcome is under legal appeal. There are two things here one I just want to talk about the story in general on its own But it also kind of connects to a second story like with most any story I like to have my opinion my own personal take away just to throw it out there into the world also so people can can Use it or disagree with it the thing that I’ve seen more and more and more is People telling me that I need to shut up because I’m a white guy that I can’t really speak on Situations like the Chinese dress story that we talked about yesterday or then in effect this story It’s also a situation I saw actor Zachary Levi of course the next Shazam trying to deal with this morning you put out a tweet about a vice news article saying from my Perspective it is a myopic op-ed at best and an op-ed making egregious damning sweeping Generalizations of all men at worst and to a tweet that read men really shouldn’t be leading to Bates about what is and isn’t sexist Any more than white people should be leading convos about what is and isn’t racist I’m a huge fan of his But this is super disappointing Zachary Levi Responded and with all due respect to you saying that men can’t lead meaningful conversations about sexism that white people can’t lead meaningful conversations about Racism is both sexist and racist Ruth doesn’t care about privilege nor do those who seek it And that’s we garnered a lot of attention both positive and negative He then went on to post a much larger statement But one of the key points the end zone is he says I wholeheartedly agree that one should never be silenced based on their gender Or skin color I’m merely asking for that same right to be afforded to me I may be white and I may be a man But I am first and foremost a human being seeking truth with all my heart and trying to make the world a little better than When I came into it for everyone because I’ve kind of seen how this argument can often play out where you have one side saying well you can’t be racist against white people because they’re not a minority that you can’t be sexist against men because because they have the Power rather than arguing about the specific words being used I really do want to want to put the question out there and It’s obvious to that that I you know where I stand I agree with Zachary Levi that I nor anyone regardless of their their skin color regardless of their gender regardless of their whatever Should not be allowed to speak on a topic because of what we are I know we have people from all different kinds of backgrounds that watch this show and so if we can just try to Have a conversation about it I would love to know your thoughts whether you agree, or you disagree, and if you do disagree with me what benefit do you think that you are you are providing that you’re you’re creating by by keeping someone out of the Conversation me the exclusion seems to do more to to alienate or push away potential allies But I’d love to know your thoughts but from that. I want to share some stuff I loved today and today and some brats abhava who needs coffee when you have dragon energy shirt hoodie and/or mug honey of course Reminded the masses that we’re just all dragon energy, and I decided to embrace another thing Kanye loves capitalism to help people remember But also personally I like coffee with my dragon energy So if you want to snag one of those while you can link in the description down below the first bit of Awesome is for You if you want a little more of me and your day one There’s a bonus video on the vlog today of three women in my life Roasting me for about three minutes while no one realized the camera was on It’s like a little peek behind the curtain and two over on DeFranco elite calm I highly recommend you subscribe one of the best ways to support videos like this one other things that we’re creating and also get exclusive Content and gear over on to Franco elite one of the new things we are testing is a podcast there is a brand new one that is around 80 minutes long with myself and the Previously mentioned three women who are roasting me, and if you want to check that out I’ll link to it directly down below and in trailer awesome We got a full trailer for ant-man and the wasp also one for a new movie called the kissing booth with Jimmy Kimmel doing mean Tweets with the Avengers Epic Meal Tom’s showing us how to make pizza lasagna And if you want to see the full versions everything I just shared the secret link of the day anything at all Links as always are in the description down below Then let’s talk about some quickie YouTube news and then some larger stories on the platform the first I’m just gonna knock this out of the way There are a lot of youtubers in New York right now for the YouTube creators some sort of throw out there before anyone gets Needlessly angry. I was invited because of my schedule I was not able to go on top of doing the show right now. There are a lot of shows We’re trying to create There’s a lot of behind the scenes stuff as well as we are now in the process of moving to our much bigger awesome studio So it’s just a really important time for us But hopefully there are other advertiser unfriendly creators out there too to represent for our kind Then people want me to chime in on Logan Paul one of the largest creators on the platform right now Announcing that he is no longer vlogging Daily my reaction of that purely on the business side is that makes sense daily vlogging well often and inherently just a fun cool experience can be very draining and it can also limit you if you’re trying to build a company or Expand creatively makes sense while a successful daily vlog is something people would kill for if not handled correctly It is something that will kill you then there were big YouTube marriages and proposals from an Atwood proposed a Britney, Smith PewDiePie Proposed to Marcia something called a Jack Douglas got married to aaron Breslin all of them. I say congratulations It’s beautiful when a couple realizes that they will involve the government in their low I wish all three of you a happy future. We also had some youtubers coming under fire for a sponsorship practice we’ve seen on the site for a little bit it places like the BBC putting out a piece titled the YouTube stars being paid to Sell cheating they refer to more than 250 channels promoting things like edgy birdie It’s one of those places that students can buy essays that they can turn in so they don’t have to do the work themselves of Course while the writing service itself is not illegal you can get into a shit ton of trouble if you get exposed for someone else Having done your work one of the people that Advertised this service was Adam Saleh remember him and sometimes look different when he’s not trying to put out a piece of fake content But also understand. I’m not trying to completely take the high road here when I was in high school I I definitely cheated on tests and on certain things use things like sparknotes Which I don’t even know if that’s a thing anymore May or may not have also done some things that resulted in school policy changing about certain devices But from an ego standpoint at least my cheating involved me being involved in it and not just paying someone that said it will be Interesting to see if anything is actually done or can actually be done about this situation Because morality aside if you’re just being analytical about the situation the only Person doing something wrong is the student turning in a piece of work? That’s not the wrong youtubers are advertising a writing service the writing service is a writing service And the student is the one turning in work. That is not their own I mentioned the story specifically because I’m interested in your thoughts on the last bit of news around the world of YouTube is news that I hate its new specifically about John Bain aka totalbiscuit aka the cynical Briggs But a popular YouTube and twitch personality for nearly a decade now He’s well known for his game reviews his wit when it comes to commentary while playing or just talking about gaming and back in 2014 He came out with the horrible news that he had full-blown cancer Sweeting took too long its full-blown cancer starting chemo soon then surgeries doctors Optimistic don’t make my mistake Get checked in 2015 has spread to his liver at which point I revealed that he had a life expectancy of 3 years leading the cancer in the bowel is gone but spots have appeared in my Liver they’re not operable, and there’s no cure average life expectancy is 2 to 3 years, though There are outliers that live much longer I fully intend to be the outlier and tend to beat it for as long as possible He has held on that promise of being an outlier holding out during the entire ordeal is but how quality content even expanded the type Of content that he puts out and of course as time has gone on the scheduling has been understandably less than consistent And we’ve gotten bits of new information on April 18th He wrote So hospitalize took them a lot of medicine to get the pain managed we now know the cause Fortunately which is spread of the disease putting pressure on my spine anyway means chemo doesn’t work anymore only options left are very poor ones So I’m moving straight into a clinical trial I am eligible for won’t be any quit here while I still have options to try John brings us to yesterday’s very long update which I’ll try to hit on the main points, but if you want to read the full thing I’ll link to it down below writing my body has become resistant to all forms of chemotherapy according to my oncologist 46 chemo treatments 138 days plugged into a pump let nobody ever say I wasn’t stubborn unfortunately this was followed up a couple of days later with some More bad news my liver is failing and its effectiveness has lowered past the point where the clinical trials I have been offered would take me off Yes
Apparently there are things that are too dangerous for even the terminal and going on to say the new focus will be pain management Saying it’s high priority so that my quality of life can improve also noting that it would be his last health update He then goes on to say that he’s going into semi-retirement. He’s retiring as a game critic noting He’s under too much medication that messes with his thinking and that his schedule is all over the place to get it out on time But at the same time he said he’s not done with YouTube or Twitter writing blokes got to make a living I have a family to consider And there’s no such thing as too much when it comes to what I leave them when I go out kicking and screaming he also Mentions that his podcast will continue although it will be a trimmed-down version and just in general I was blown away by his composure I’m not going to close this out like like I sometimes do with other Stories that are kind of hard for people to digest I talk about the emotions of the situation John Bain is a very Matter-of-fact blunt guy 1john you once joked that your oncologist told you that things could only get worse in one other way But luckily that has still not happen congratulations and to John if you’re the kind of guy that I think you are you probably Downplay a lot but you should know that you are a pioneer in this space there are people today doing what they love because you inspired them by doing what you do you there are people doing what they want today because you open doors by just doing what you Did to me and many others you are a bamf And that’s that’s where I’m gonna leave this one and then let’s talk about this president Trump Robert Moeller leaked Situation so reportedly Robert Muller’s team told Donald Trump’s lawyers what questions They would like to ask the president and somehow the New York Times gets ahold of them And they publish a list of over 40 questions We’re not gonna be able to fully cover all the questions, so I’ll link to the full list down below Also a note some of the questions The Times reported aren’t verbatim to Moeller’s list the outlets saying that they condense some of the questions And to simplify the situation the questions essentially fall into four categories one Questions related to Michael Flynn the former national security adviser to questions related to James Comey the former FBI I director three questions related to Attorney General Jeff session and four questions related to campaign coordination with Russia before diving deeper into these questions It’s also important to mention that President Trump did tweet about this leak this morning writing so disgraceful of the questions concerning the Russian witch-hunt Were leaked to the media no questions on collusion Oh, I see you. Have a made-up phony crime collusion that never existed and an investigation begun with illegally leaked classified information Nice later adding it would seem very hard to obstruct justice for a crime that never happened witch-hunt and there are a few things there that we need to talk about more and also some that you start right as far as the Who leaked the information that’s something we’ll touch on in a few minutes to regarding there being no questions about Collusion literally one of the questions reads what knowledge? Did you have of any outreach by your campaign including by Paul Manafort of Russia about potential assistance to the campaign? That’s a very notable question because Paul Manafort has had a slew of charges pressed against him but none have related to Russia so far that might be changing a court filing last month shows a mother wanted to expand his inquiry into allegations that mana for quote committed a Crime or crimes by colluding with Russian government officials there was also a filing shortly before that one that described a mana for business associate by the name of konstantin kill a minute as having ongoing ties to russian intelligence during the 2016 campaign as we now have this question that shows a mother might have more evidence about possible collusion and all that as a big Deal of course because Paul Manafort was Donald Trump’s former campaign chairman And three was talk about Donald Trump saying that it’d be very hard to obstruct justice When essentially there was no crime and that I would say hey, we don’t know if there was no crime That’s why there’s an investigation and be mr.. President No, you’re wrong according to federal law is justice can be obstructed when someone knowingly interferes with an ongoing investigation and mr. President with you having the position you are in it would not be very hard to obstruct justice it would be very Stupid to obstruct justice especially if no crime happened, but those are two different situations so now that we have that knocked out Let’s talk about the questions about Michael Flynn x providing one that read. How is the decision made to fire mr. Flynn on February 13 2017 in late 2017 Trump said that he fired former national security director Michael Flynn because he had lied to the vice president in the FBI also in December Trump tweeted I had to fire general Flynn because he lied to the vice president and the FBI is pled guilty to those lies It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful there was nothing to hide and shortly after Flynn was fired former FBI Director James Comey said that Trump came to him to ask for leniency on Flynn. That’s true That could be a huge problem for Trump the president wanted to protect Flynn It could potentially be obstruction of justice It’s also important remember that one of trumps former lawyers said that the president didn’t write that John Dowd Said he personally sent that tweet from Trump’s account and so ultimately this question is probably Millar trying to figure out Trump’s version of how? And why Flynn was fired and it’s also an interesting question because the White House never really fully explained Why officials waited so long to fire Flynn after learning about the law and there was another question dealing with an interview Trump gave to? Lester Holt in May of last year this is one of the main questions around Comey The Times reporting the Miller allegedly wanted to ask Trump, what did you mean in your interview with Lester Holt about mr. Comey and Russia if you don’t remember that interview Trump said he had been thinking about the Russia investigation when he fired Comey and in fact when I decided to just do it, I said to myself I said you know This Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story It’s an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should have won But that interview contradicts other statements the president has made just last month Trump tweeted Slippery James Comey the worst FBI director in history was not fired because of the phony Russia investigation We’re by the way there was no collusion except by the DEM Trump also sang in that NBC interview that he had plans to fire Comey before Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein Recommended him to oh I was going to fire regardless of records, so there was a room he made a recommendation He’s highly respected very good guy very smart guy The Democrats liked him the Republicans like him. He made a recommendation, but regardless of recommendation I was going to fire come back before then interview the White House cited Rosen Singh’s Recommendation as the reason for commis fire some others questioned Here is probably an attempt to just get a definitive answer from the president about why he fired Comey I’m like I said there were also questions around sessions most notably. Did you discuss whether mr.? Sessions would protect you and reference past AG’s yes because Trump has allegedly asked for loyalty before from others But with this question especially because it’s about sessions. It’s interesting considering that most of the time You’d only really get a question like this if the person asking the question already knew the answer another question asking What was the purpose of your May 12 2017 tweet that sweet reading James Comey better? Hope there are no tapes of our conversations before you starts leaking to the press so me of course responded lordy I hope there are tape and the White House eventually said that there were no tapes But Muller seems to want to know why Trump said this in the first place. There’s also another question I focuses on Russian hacking and social media because by the way I mentioned the Paul Manafort question once again I’m not sure what the president was talking about saying that there was an questions around Kalusha There was the mana for a question. I previously mentioned there are these four it was also during the campaign What did you know about Russian hacking use of social media or other acts aimed at the campaign that of course a pretty interesting question? Because Trump has praised the release of hacked Democratic emails and called on Russia even if it was just a joke to find others But it’s also a notable question because Muller’s investigation Also, reportedly has evidence that at least one member of trumps campaign George papadopolis was told that Russia had obtained compromising emails about Hillary Clinton once again these are notable interesting questions to me if you want to see the full list I’ll link to them down below now This brings us to the note that I said we would come back to and that was who leaked this Information the New York Times said that the list of questions was provided to them by a person outside Trump’s legal team But at the same time Michael Zeldin a former assistant to Robert Muller said today that the grammatical errors in the questions prove a Trump Team member leaked the information, I don’t see this as a list of written questions that Muller’s office gave to the president I think these are more notes that the White House has taken and then they have expanded upon the conversation to write out these as questions and That’s where we are so I think Jeffrey’s right that these are introductory questions that then introduce a lot of sub questions And that takeaway is interesting for two reasons one at the very least it does appear likely that the the source of the questions not necessarily the leak But the source of the question as those came from Trump’s legal team and a lead-up to the list of questions being made as something That the New York Times also talked about on their podcast the daily What was going on was that Muller’s folks were trying to get down to come along and? Agree to let Trump do the interview? So what happened was is they brought down over to the special counsels office? And they said look here are the questions we want to ask and they started rattling them off down the other lawyers there took it down and Created this document these forty nine questions so based on that it seems unlikely that it was Muller’s office that would leak this information Until this is notable because this morning President Nixon’s White House Counsel John Dean said if the questions leaked were from a Trump team member That could be obstruction of justice which once again even if there was no collusion And I’m not saying that there was collusion You can still obstruct justice so that is where we are right now. It will be very interesting to see what other information What other fallout comes from this situation? Based on the rollercoaster that has been the past two years I imagine more information one way or the other will be coming out soon And that’s where I’m going to end today’s show and remember if you like this video hit that like button if you’re new here hit That subscribe button ring that bell make sure you turn on notifications also If you missed yesterday’s philip defranco show you want to catch up click or tap right there to watch that well if you want to Watch today’s brand new bonus video, which is just three people women in my life roasting me for three minutes You can click or type right there to watch that but so that’s that of course as always my name is philip defranco You’ve just been phill’d in a love yo faces, and i’ll see you tomorrow

  1. We have a lot to talk about today, ya Beautiful Bastards. Even if you don't agree with me, let's start a conversation…
    Racist Restaurant Claim(00:06), Levi Twitter (2:24), Youtube Quickies(5:31), Totalbiscuit(7:51 ), Mueller/Trump(10:30)

  2. I watched the WHOLE Zachary Levi thing. I have his Tweet notifications on. And watched the Insta live(s) on it…b/c had to re-start 2 or 3 times. He had the best intentions and it was the minority of individuals that disagreed. He was sharing HIS experience and purple were quick to invalidate it and assume he had bad intentions. Really unfair.

  3. Everyone is allowed to speak on any topic they wish, but no one is required to pay attention to you, and your opinion does not need to be given the same weight as the opinions of people more directly affected by racism and sexism.

  4. You spelled Covfefe wrong on your dragon energy shirt. I would have bought a "Who needs Covfefe when you have Dragon Energy" shirt.

  5. The dangerous thing about saying that men can't speak on sexism, and whites cant speak on racism, is that you're not getting rid of prejudice, you're just shifting it around. Exclusion is exclusion, period. Talking about solutions to racism or sexism or agism or any kind of 'ism' by excluding any party willing to contribute and work towards something better, is not solving the issue. It's pushing blame at best, and just plain ignorant at best.

  7. God damn it, I'm actually kind of tearing up here. I've been watching Totalbiscuit for nearly a decade. Eight years or so. He introduced me to the Yogscast, Jesse Cox, Dodger, the entirety of Game Station/Polaris, the many guests on the Co-Optional Podcast. I used to watch every one of his videos before life just got too busy, but I went back and caught up whenever I could. After the cancer announcement, I just kind of put it out of my mind because I thought if any man could beat cancer, it would be someone as stubborn as the Cynical Brit. Even now, I still hold out hope that somehow he'll pull through, even though that probably isn't possible.

TB was also my inspiration for trying to launch a career in voice acting, something I'm still actively working towards. The even, direct, and powerful way he delivered his commentary and used his voice was awesome and I want to be able to replicate that in some small way.

Best of wishes to you, Totalbiscuit. Thank you for all you've done for the gaming community. Thank you for your amazing and consistent content, even when your body was failing you. Enjoy your retirement, you beautiful Brit.

Oh, and thanks for actually teaching me what Field of View sliders in the options menu were for. We'll never let the devs forget them, those bastards!

  8. Thank You! Somebody actually said something! The amount of times I've heard "black people can't be racist" or "white people don't know shit about discrimination". Sometimes I want to climb into the screen and back slap people. ??

  11. haha yeah the "cheating" part. I was on the early days of PDAs and had a calculator sim on it and asked if I could use that for tests… but they didn't know I could pull up PDFs or had WiFi lol

  13. every single student has cheated on schoolwork in someway, whether your asking friends for answers, looking them up online etc. what people do with that writing service is their business. people need to stop acting like their better than everyone by calling out these services, you're not being progressive you're just being a dick.

  14. Thanks for covering TB's situation. I've been a fan of his since his since the TGS days and his retirement hit me hard. The industry is losing a fantastic critic and advocate for gamers.

  15. Of course anyone is allowed to speak on anything. But you have to humble yourself and consider that you may be ignorant to a subject, no matter how informed you think you are. This is especially true if you are majority group speaking about oppression of a minority. Allow room for people in the group you are commenting on to tell you that their experience is different than what you have read or heard from others. If you haven't experienced it yourself, it would be silly to assume you know it all.

I'm a black female, and I could speak on mental health issues for Native Americans. But if an NA man told me I was actually wrong in my facts or that my story differs hugely from him/his family/peers, then I should shut the hell up and take in what he says. As for the comment as for "leading" the debate, maybe certain groups shouldn't at certain times. They should be listeners and equal contributors, but again, if someone tells you that your assertion is wrong or hurtful or racist, take that seriously. That is unless you have directly experienced the situation, which some majorities have.

Just use common sense, check yourself and allow the people experiencing the situation or oppression or sadness to comment and lead, they will rarely lead you wrong. Minority thoughts are often rarely heard and validated in the mainstream so these people are protective of them. I do believe everyone should listen more in general. And listen to understand, not just to rebut. And if you still disagree at the end of the day, then at least you learned something new. ✌️

  16. When Phil and his team move into the new place give them 6 months to a year and they'll move out of the place and own a warehouse.

  17. ok there’s a difference between saying that white people can’t talk about racism and saying that white people can’t decide what is or is racist, which for some reason you, zachary levi, and people in the comments don’t understand. obviously we need white people to talk about racism! we need privileged people to discuss privilege. intelligent discussion between people is the only way that things can change. but white people cannot decide for poc what is or isn’t racist, just like men cannot decide for women what is or isn’t sexist, het people can’t decide for queer people what is or isn’t homo/bi/pan/queerphobic, etc…a privileged group just can’t tell a marginalized group what they can and cannot be offended by, end of story.

  18. Like most things the truth is somewhere in the middle. It’s not that white people or men shouldn’t talk about women’s issues or race issues. It’s that they shouldn’t lead the conversation. Many times white people have said that racism doesn’t exist because it they don’t see it. But the racism isn’t toward them it’s not something that they deal with on an every day. I think the original issue was that black people and women just wanted their stories to be heard without having to prove to the majority that they were telling the truth

  19. I think it’s VERY important that EVERYONE talks about racial and sexist issues… Because maybe there’s a child/teenager/whatever out there who LOVES you and watches you. And maybe because YOU talk about important racial issues, this child/teenager/whatever, grows up with a little less hate in their heart… because he looked up to you, and you’re not a racist and sexist asshole. I think that’s so important. Because perhaps if you didn’t talk about these important issues, this person wouldn’t be exposed to the conversation at all. We are molding our future generations TODAY.

  20. It's not that men (or white men, or white people, or pick-your-privileged-status) can't or shouldn't have a voice in matters of oppression, or lead discussionS, it's that they shouldn't have the only voice or be leading THE discussion. That's pretty much how oppression begins and self-perpetuates. Could a room full of old, wealthy, white men debate any topic with insight and intelligence? Absolutely. But when they're deciding life-level policies for women, poor people, younger generations, people of colour, or any combination of the above, actual life experience becomes important. As a marketer, what's the first thing you do? Understand your market, right? Well, does it make sense for policy-makers to be so out-of-touch with the very people being affected by their policies? And yet that's what happens when the people in power have the only voices being heard. So … yeah, love you Phil, and I'm a fan of Zachary Levi's, but just remember that you both have the power to silence other voices in the act of making yours heard. Speak your words, because they're good ones, but keep perspective.

  21. Thought it should’ve been hit a little harder to GET CHECKED. It’s so important to schedule regular screenings to check for cancer. The timing of when you catch it is usually the difference between life or death. Use him as an example and a reminder to please get checked!!!

  22. The only time whiny bi*ches, don’t care about you not being the right color, gender or sexual orientation. Is when you’re speaking in support of their cause.

If your their biggest cheerleader (Michael Moore) as example. He speaks for woman all the time and no one gives a fu*k. No ones yelling foul on that tool of a guy.

Say what you want and stop apologizing to these azzholes.

  23. A congressional investigation found no collusion. If Phil did 5 minutes of research and got over his Trump derangement syndrome he'd know this. He'd also know that Mueller has been shady even up till now using the warrant obtained with the discredited Steele dossier

  24. It really sucks to know that totalbiscuit is on his way down (or up however you'd like to view it) I haven't followed him closely for a while like I did in the beginning.. but he definitely was and is a huge inspiration.. anytime I needed to know anything about particular games I'd go to him first.. then again I was a fan so I used to watch all the videos that were put out.. I love how he shared/shares his knowledge with us and makes us smile.. John.. you're an incredibly strong human being and your dedication is so admirable.. you continue to be an example even during the worst of times.. I take my hat off for you sir

  25. so wait. racism is discrimination based on color of skin, right? so isnt shutting down someone's freedom of speech based on the color of their skin, aka white people, racist?

  26. TotalBiscuit is one of the best people on this god forsaken site and not only inspires with his content and what he's done, but his attitude towards life and what he's going through. As someone with serious medical issues myself, it helps to know that 'going out kicking and screaming' is an option, because damn it, I'm going to do it. We love you and thanks <3

  27. It is impossible to be the victim of racism as a white person. However it is entirely possible that one can have prejudice and bias against white people and that lead to discrimination. Entirely different than the systematic marginalization and disenfranchisement of black people. So no reverse racism does not exist — but prejudice does.

  28. Also I don’t think it’s right to say men can’t talk about women’s issues/white ppl can’t talk about racism. What SHOULD be said is men and white ppl’s voices should not be taken more seriously than women and black ppl’s voices on the issues that affect them more drastically.

  29. There's a difference between what Levi said about that article, and you, in general. You talk about racism and sexism to the majority, getting them to think about the perspective of the minority. You are power, speaking to power, asking them to listen to a view that is different than their own. Levi denying that men act like the friend zone exists and that its existence is demeaning to women is power in denial when the group without power is saying something is problematic. Not the same.

  30. Everyone has the right to an opinion, regardless of who they are. If you get a soapbox, so does every one else. Don't try to limit other's free speech that you also enjoy.

  31. Reading is fundamental in the case of Mr Levi. The key word is LEAD the conversation, no one said participate, so stop acting like it.

  32. $10k for damages. Ok, what damage was caused.

Also, these tribunals are largely considered kangaroo courts, see: Shakedown by Ezra Levant.

  33. Look! I have a right to my opinion. I also have a right to speak it. My skin color or race or eye color or country of origin or ANYTHING ABOUT ME does not matter. If you have an issue with my opinion don't listen! You have that right but don't think for a second you will shut me up with your flimsy excuses why I don't have any right to speak. You are wrong! Of course "you" being anyone who thinks differently than I do. Speak it! I have the right to disagree but you have the right to say it.

  34. i actually agree with you phil on the point that everyone should be able to participate in any conversation or debate, however with that i mind i also believe the fact that the white people do have a majority of the power(which you said yourself) maybe they should play a smaller role in subjects regarding sex and race, since regardless of their situation or view point the white men will dictate the laws and/or rules! #kindasmartright?

  35. On the story about Zachary Levi (2:24):
It's not about keeping white men out of the conversation, of course not. Everyone needs the opportunity to help bring change.
It's more about the fact that white men have been LEADING the conversation, and somehow it makes the conversation (much like this one) more about white-men-issues than it does the actual problem or discussion at hand.
You can't have a person of high privilege at the forefront talking about what's best and what's not for people of less privilege. Unfortunately, as history provides evidence of, majority of people seem to only listen when white men of power are speaking… See the issue?

  36. It is possible to discriminate against White people. The idea that it's not possible to do so is very shortsighted and hypocritical.

  37. A conversation about racism should naturally include the racist if they're willing to be part of the conversation, that's the person you can save from their own hate. A conversation about racism should absolutely include a person of the usual profile for racism if they agree with you; that's the person who can not only help you get your message out but give you insight that you might not otherwise easily get. Don't be foolish. We fought hundreds of years just to be able to have a conversation in the first place. Don't squander that with your presumptuous assumptions and misguided hatred.

  38. I disagree with Levi. The point isn’t to silence or “push you out of the debate.” The reason we don’t take you seriously is because you are the only ones who have never legitimately been silenced. Gay people didn’t have the right to get married because straight people led the debate on gay marriage, women couldn’t vote because men led the debate on women’s rights to vote, Abuse victims weren’t taken seriously because rapists led the debate on sexual assault. And it really stings when these people who’ve never been a silenced majority try complain about having their feelings hurt because their opinion on something they’ve never experienced is worth less. Of course it is! You don’t understand! You wouldn’t try and have a dentist preform brain surgery, would you?

  39. I think edubirdie is stupid as well. But unless they are plagiarizing other people's works or scamming it's clients, I don't think Youtube has any business banning those ads. Cheating is a choice, not a legal or functional principle. Youtube still acts like it has all the control that a corporation would normally have but the problem is it has already because another communication channel. Youtube's services should be more in line with the freedoms that AMERICANS already have with other mediums. Free market means FREE MARKET, and if you buy a service to write an essay for you there shouldn't be anything wrong with that. Youtube's censorship is oppressive as hell and when it comes to these tech companies they are no better than totalitarian regimes.

  40. Zachary Levi is correct. Plain and simple. It is the logical position. A contrary position can only be achieved via emotion and illogic. It’s sad we had to waste time discussing such a brutally simple reality.

  41. (coming from a white man) I do understand your view but the way I always think of it is we can speak on it but we shouldn't value our experiences as evidence like "oh that didn't happen because I've never seen it even though multiple people have told me their personal experiences" we all can speak on any issue but to speak over other people who experience it first hand isn't right. I can't claim to know more about racism than someone who's black because I've never experienced it. I've never been profiled for my skin or had the police called on me for hanging out in a store (sorry this is a convoluted mess)

  42. Fun fact. Most blacks are extremely racist and feel they have every right to be. This is a problem and needs to be brought to light along with victim mentality discussion Candace and Kanye started.

  43. My thoughts on Zachary Levi: I love him as an actor, so idk if I should be speaking on this. I'll start out by saying racism against white people isn't a thing, and neither is sexism against men (although many men DO experience the result of stigma against femininity!) I also think that POC should be leading the discussion on racism and women should be leading the discussion on sexism, as these are the groups directly affected by these prejudices. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean that white men can't contribute! Everyone has their own experiences, and everyone's experience is valid and important, because it is ignorant to make blanket statements derived from only your own experience or the experience of one demographic.

  44. I had a similar argument with a peer in college. If white people were not “allowed” to speak up against racism we would never have mark twain writing huckleberry Finn, or any of the other countless Caucasian humans who have created art that stands against oppression or tries to make the ignorant understand. I feel like it’s sad we can’t even speak up for one another, how are we supposed to help others if we can only talk about ourselves.

  45. I'm over the argument of "You can't have opinion A because of…" because it ends up being a bullshit last ditch effort for the person having the argument trying to win. Wahhhhh the person is making actual facts and having a logical conversation and all I have are my feelings. I'm going to shut them up by telling them they have no right to said opinion because of…..
It's bullshit and I will lose all respect for anyone using it against me. Have a conversation with me, change my mind, use facts and logic not your useless feelings and teach me about your perspective. Be an adult and learn to communicate.

  46. Whites don't rule the world. Men don't rule the world. WEALTHY people who happen to be predominately white, male and Judeo-Christian in ideology or background. It's extremely racist and sexist, as well as what every top class as done to the lower class in every culture when the opportunity as presented itself.

  47. Makes me wonder if Trump ain't the only one sending out tweets on his account, how many "stupid" tweets is he behind…? No one really knows now if it's Trump or someone else tweeting under his handle.

  48. it's not about pushing people out of the conversation. it's about prioritizing the voices of those affected , because the voices of others are often heard more. there's nearly almost always more to the subject than someone who hasn't experienced something would understand. and that's not belittling, if you haven't experienced something as complex as racism or sexism, then it's unlikely you will understand right away, and that's okay . for example, if i speak about racism, i will say "i haven't experienced this topic so i might be wrong about some things or not fully understand it, but with what i know, this is my opinion…". EVERYONE is always learning more about topics so we should never think in black and whites (no pun intended).

  49. I think we can talk about whatever topics we want to.

But I think we all have a responsibility to understand that we have our own inherent bias's and privileges. With the dress story last week, I think its problematic to wear a different culture's traditional dress, but if you understand it's history and you're honoring it, I don't see the harm. BUT, I'm a white woman saying that. I don't get to decide what should and should not be offensive for another culture. I think its important to talk about these issues openly, but if you are not part of a marginalized demographic, you should probably defer to the experience of the individuals who have experienced systematic oppression.

It's not about "Oh we have no say in this discussion" its about having your say, but recognizing why your saying it and understanding that your experience of it couldn't possibly be the same as someone who's been directly affected by cultural appropriation or sexism.

  50. I dont think racism towards white people is valid, specially because it is practically unexistant and the privilege they hold. Sexism towards men goes the same way. But I do agree that just for being white or a man you can participate in the conversation but I think there should be a disconnect between participating and imposing opinions. On top of that I am not of thos who believe that people of other races can be racist towards one another.

  51. You guys know how there are brown eggs and white eggs right well if you cook them they are the same so…

  52. As a Mexican American man looking at this from the other side, NO, one should not be silenced because of Race or Gender and this whole attack on "White" people and this entire "Cultural Appropriation" argument are completely ridiculous and racist, people need to stop this crap and love one another for being their fellow brother sister, Race and Gender topics like i have stated need to stop, it's disgusting !

  53. I think it is stupid when people get pissy about "white people not being minorities." When in fact globally white people are around 15% of the population.

I feel like a lot of Westerners forget they are not the centre of the universe.

  54. Zachary Levi’s « discrimination controversy » LOL People love to hate DC actors. But turn a blind eye on sexist Marvel actors and directors !

  55. I get the gist of what you are saying, DeFranco, and I agree white men should not be left out of the conversation. They shouldn't, however, be the dominant part. I don't need to be lectured on my own culture by someone who has little experience on the subject other than he went to a Mexican restaurant or spent a few minutes looking up Mexican culture on Wikipedia for 5 minutes.

Call me someone who can't let go of my identity politics, because I take a lot of pride in my heritage. White people are free to learn about the rich culture Mexicans bring, but they cannot dominate that discussion because it is not theirs to dominate. If I want to learn about Scottish, Irish, or any culture white men want to bring, I'll let them dominate the discussion. Only seems fair. =)

  56. I'm a black male and anyone can be racist and sexist. Gender, sex, or genetics disposition does not negate or relable a person's actions.

And as for cancer. Do more than just getting checked. Eat your veggies and cut down and sugar and animal flesh! Veggies have vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and vital enzymes that keep you from disease.

  57. We should all be able to speak on every topic but if it does not affect you, you should not speak over those that it does. White people can speak on racism, but they shouldn't lead the debate, goyim can speak on anti-semitism but should not be the face of it, etc. There is a balance that I think it is important to find and recognise.

  58. Zach is totally correct. If you say that White people can't be racially discriminated against, you're just stupid…

  59. seems sortof extremely stupid to me. if you want to be treated better by white men, dont treat white men as your enemy because that is an easy way to make them your enemy.

  60. i don't think you shouldnt be allowed to be apart of the conversation, i just think it's important to keep in mind who has historically dominated conversations about oppression (the oppressors). amplifying the voices of the oppressed is important because they're reality is oppression. white people aren't generally forced to confront racism. straight people aren't generally forced to confront homophobia. cis people aren't generally forced to confront transphobia. men aren't generally forced to confront sexism. therefore, their perspectives can be ignorant. that doesn't mean they shouldn't be apart of the conversation, it just means they should leave room for people who aren't automatically given the power.

  61. Anybody who hates on Zachary Levi is a horrible and miserable person. He has spread nothing but love and he makes the world better. We need more people like him. The man speaks truth and wisdom.

  62. In my opinion, skin color, gender, etc, doesn’t matter. All opinion matters. I understand those who feel their opinion is silenced, or the minority, should be better represented. However, I would hope equality it the ultimate goal. And you can’t find equality if we’re alienating any specific group.

  63. The scientific evidence shows that our station in life is both informing and blinding to our perspective. Hence not only should all voices be allowed to participate, no one person can be accepted as having all the relevant information. It takes all voices to explore an issue.
