Veterans And Peace Activists Seek To Find Common Ground

Kids… killed kids. It’s not fun, and so desensitizes what we have to do because that is our job. It’s a job.>>Against that wall, with the ‘X’ on it, can I have all my veterans? The other wall, on this side, I’m gonna have all my peace activists.>>The military brainwashes its soldiers.>>Veteran: (quietly) How?>>Oh, wow. Um, I don’t think the natural inclination for a human being is to want to kill another human being. There is a necessary requirement in the military to get you to perform a certain action. And in order for that action to occur, it is my theory, that there is a part of changing the way that you think, in order to take somebody from a human being and make it a target so that you can achieve a goal. They had asked are the military Desensitizing soldiers are they Manipulating them mentally and I would have walked over. I would have Brainwashed we chose it. Well. I don’t know man It’s just like I even watch like the advertisements for the military And it just seems to me the one thing you brought up was was killing It’s no no one wants to do. I know. I don’t want to do. I know I didn’t want to flips you yes He was use the words desensitized. We’re desensitizes and so because we have to we have to move on I just think that that’s kind of my point though in order to get from that spot where you don’t want to kill another human Being to where you look at it as this is just my job, but it’s a choice. Yeah, it’s not brainwashed It really just comes down to either that guy at the end of your muzzle Or you and I want to come back home to my family Okay Yeah, this is a tough one I think that there’s a point between a just war and An unjust war there are certain wars that? You know, maybe we should have gone into it like maybe we shouldn’t have gone into Iraq Right and then there’s certain wars where World War two You know where Hitler was Advancing to pull in I think that’s definitely a just war to get into I mean he was trying to kill Jewish people yeah And in that case you could call it a necessary evil There is a time that that necessary evil has to happen and in that you don’t even maybe call it a necessary evil It’s just a necessity the action itself has to take place As long as we leave this on the table at war is a necessary evil it really just excuses almost all You know all wars because if it’s six – what’s excusable right when does it become necessary? If you really want to see a peaceful world you have to just get rid of that because the key word there is it necessary Necessary I don’t believe that I don’t believe it’s necessary that it’s the only way for to you to obtain your objective is war Do you I thought you were disagreeing with the evil no no no, I mean well. Yeah war is not evil I mean not yeah, it’s not Have you ever had an argument, but you had good intentions? Right so yeah to speak on the word evil. I don’t really agree that war equals evil as well Probable maybe not possible Yes, yeah When you get humans together and find a way to find common ground to find the similarities rather than the differences That’s when you have a possibility At peace and I believe that it is something that is possible on a grand scale is it easy Maybe not but it is possible World peace I want that to happen of course But it’s so much easier said than done I think because just the way that we were taught you know we all want world peace But let’s say a culture in Africa thinks that genital mutilation is perfectly fine Are we going to be perfectly fine with that are we going to be able to talk them out of it? I don’t really think we are because they have their own customs their own cultures So the only way we can kind of get them to accept our culture. Is there is some sort of violence That’s dangerous. I do believe that the Quantum of people that would prefer peace to conflict is growing and that’s what gives me hope So if it meant if I died the world would be at peace oh Yeah Look I’ve I’ve had some amazing adventures on planet earth I’ve had the greatest of friends the greatest of family seen the best concerts seen some beautiful places if it meant that That happened for this place to be a-ok groovy do it right now. I had a good run I got 35 years with more than a lot I’ve got more than twice yeah, those ears But more importantly I have two grandchildren and a third one on the way, yeah and and really I had to think about it, but if I could do that and bring them world peace let alone all the Lexi’s and Charlie’s around the world that’s easy and like life is so beautiful, but for me I believe there is a life after my life, and there are many lifetimes. Yeah, if I had to die for world peace me versus 7 billion human beings Question I initially when I heard the question. I thought man What a dumb question and then Steve your answer actually really made me think yeah Well actually elicited like a really beautiful response. Are you talking about your grandchildren you know and then I’m Like I’ll think a little bit more about this question And I realized you know what if I say I’m willing to die for peace. Oh gosh. What’s the last time? I did anything to actually promote peace. Oh, I’d be a claw I’d be a really full of shit if I said that I would be willing to die for peace I wouldn’t be able. Do you even take the most basic steps towards actually contributing something, but those basic those basic steps totally matter But also living a life of purpose is a life That’s lived a moment to moment to moment so simply you by being you you affect people like yeah you seem I only met you for what half an hour 45 minutes You got a good head on your shoulders and wherever you go you leave an imprint And that’s true for all of us. I mean don’t get me wrong. I don’t want to die, and I’d rather do those things I I’m in a I’m in a peace group that has met every Friday morning since 9/11 16 years for two hours every Friday to work on these issues So I think really if we I sometimes say a dollar a day and an hour a day Yeah, I know a lot of I mean not like tons of people was you know dozen or so people with that my closest friend To kill was killed was his name is Chris domain and he had a wife and kids it was is Pretty sad I’ve deployed seven times now, and I’m scheduled to go back out in March For my eighth back to Afghanistan, but uh I think there was probably one or two deployments where we didn’t Lose someone. I don’t know if it’s appropriate what taps into your Courage to keep going back in the face of losing these guys. Yeah, it’s a For me. It’s not only just a job when I say job. I think of family I think of putting food on the table roof over the head of my family and then Second to that or pretty much tied for first is the guys next to you you know Which eyes go out here in LA and really? They have a future in college or anything just we’ve got poor and homeless at some points But uh join the military I want to serve my country and really just have some stable and has it evolved It was now’s like this big family. You’re part of you’re part of something that’s bigger, and I don’t mind deploying because I know I’m with family I Think I’m blessed that I don’t know anybody who’s died in combat so I mean yeah I don’t understand what you guys have been through but I applaud you all of you guys for Like you said putting food on the table cuz in my head. I was like. There’s so many jobs out there. Why this one When you’re when you’re a soldier, you’re you’re making a sacrifice, so thank you You’re welcome Yeah, you know I mean I think and I think as Americans we appreciate anybody who makes a significant sacrifice Its kind of the ultimate sacrifice So Thank you for checking out that video much appreciation We get to do what we love because you all watch our videos So if you really love us you’ll continue to keep watching videos There’s more right here that you can check out you probably haven’t seen all of them And if you really want to just commit to us you can subscribe right here. I’ll be around I’ll be at the end of some more videos, and I will keep in touch peace You

  1. for some they saw the 9/11 bombings as vile and evil and sought justice, revenge and patriotism to justify their involvement to war,

  2. problems involve
    income inequality
    discrimination
    religion
resource inequality ie food and water
    political systems
    corporations
    economy
    environment
    lazy
    different ideologies

  3. everyone desires peace
    BUT
    WHAT KIND OF PEACE
a peace where women rule and men are considered disposable
a peace where whites are persecuted because of their inheritance
a peace where everyone can own a gun
a peace where crime is allowed
a peace where we all live under sharia law
a peace where we all worship the supreme leader kim yung un 🙂
I want peace but my iedeal version of peace is far different from someone from china, korea, japan we are all the same but too different look at the EU yes its nice ,but due to pwer distribution and an un balance economy, smaller and weaker countries like crete, Greece and Belgium have their own problems or look at the usa where yes its one big country but its actually a coalition of small states, one state is different from the other, try getting a southern state to agree with a northern state on gun control

  4. how would you attain world peace because the UN tried and faild if not then why are there still slums in brazil or why do many Africans suffer from starvation or thirst, the problem is resource management and poor economical system where yes capitalism is good, it creates jobs and freedom of choice, but it creates income inequality and poor resource distribution the either those WHO NEEED IT, and those who WANT it because they would rather sponge off of the welfare and are too lazy to do anything, granted not everyone can work but there are those who cheat, steal and lie just to get more money or things, how can you get a person in china the same living standards as someone form the uk or someone from Africa the same living standards as that of the usa

  5. I have no issue with groups such as vegans, nra, peace and the lgbtqaa++ and to a lesser extent feminism and # me too but what ticks me off is when these groups start affecting others in a negative way like Antifa or going onto peoples property and causing problems for others such as blocking roads.

  6. There will always be war, just like there will always be sexism and racism etc. The thought that this will ever stop is asinine. The more people there are the more point of views/beliefs will exist regardless if they're right or wrong.

  7. Okay, so this was actually pretty good. My only complaint is that it wasn't long-form, unedited, and 100% candid without any breaks for third party point to point interruptions. Maybe just have a rotating system where it goes from person to person in the circle to read off one of the points and have them start off with their individual response. Should they need some time to think about the statement or question, then they can just say so and offer a pass until it comes back to them. Also, I'm not saying to necessarily have it go in order or to have any formal structure to the dialogue, like each person "wait their turn" to respond; I was thinking having the only 'structure' being that of each group member reading off one of the conversation points one after another, if purely for the sake of the situational and video formatting. Otherwise it would all be entirely freeform, uncut, and genuine. I would have loved to have seen this video in that format.

  8. Peace activists (leftie extremists) should find ground 6ft under.
    Pacifist cowards.
Peace is NOT 'given'. It was 'taken'.
And needs to be protected. Not by chanting-but by force.
    RUle of nature.
In the old system pacifists would have NO chance of survival.
    Chant a bear away then.

  9. Someone tell me why I teared up when he was complimenting the guy at 7:10?? The connection was just so genuine and peaceful, I feel. There was no harm in it, just a sincere wish for his well-being. I want to know more people like that. That’s how I want to talk with people and live in the world.

  10. You want world peace. Everyone needs to go back home and stop interacting with each other. We will never see eye to eye because we all walk different forms of life. What they think and believe is different to what i think and believe but we arent going to come to terms because we arent the same we are different and im not changine me just for you so dont you change you just for me. Its a cool idea and i would like to see it but…no..world peace is a fantasy not reality.

  11. The activists vs soldiers….lets break this down….the soldiers are the vehicle, the government is the driver….the activists are pissing on the vehicle.
These activists dont realise that ww1 and ww2 give them the ability to say their peace otherwise it would be in german or japanese instead of english. Korea, viernan, iraq and all these other places are to bring peace. You can say oh if i die it will cause world peace…im guessing you believe cars run on unicorn irridescent bubble farts as well…the world is made of different cultures and different belief systems and traditions, and theres always one prick in that system who wants to foul things up, be it greed, stupidity, jealousy, hate or just wants to be a down right c#$t, in power of the government in that country.
And its the little people who want peace in that country who pay for it.. so who speaks for them…sit on your chair in a nice little circle and speak about them in your safe little country with police folk upholding the lawful stability of your country.

  12. 9:22 This what is partly wrong with the world, and what prevents at least parts of the world to live in perfect harmony. No understanding. The chill asian chick was polite, but her last comment I think, at least if I was somebody who did time on the battlefield would make me feel a bit peeved, but those obviously weren't her intentions. I want to talk more about the bearded hipster looking guy in the blue shirt. 9:31 I could feel the tension. 'You're welcome' snapping quickly, basically saying in the language of human expression and tone. 'You're an asshole'. Yeah sure, he says it's the ultimate sacrifice, but he speaks in a way like soldiers are athletes, or just went laser tag and got badly hurt here and there. These guys have witnessed horror, witnessed some of their closest friends be teared apart by bullets or explosives, been truly scared for their lives. I know that was a very dark example, but the hipster guy who I'm sure is not a bad human being, kind of came off as arrogant and self-righeous, but he seems like a guy would never admit that. People need to empathise way more. Like seriously. There is good acts and intention, there is bad acts and intention. Those roads cross quite a bit unfortunately for people, for all of us, as individuals and as a society. But at the end of the day, everyone knows what it's like to be human. We should focus on that.

  13. Soldiers out here putting their lives on the line everyday for our freedom, I don't think "peace activists" have the right to exist.

  14. The word they are looking for is "Learn to agree to disagree" and respect for each others life choices. When we can do that, world peace is possible.

  15. War is a necessary evil in response to evil. The alternative to warring against evil is to lay down and die or do nothing while others do. Killing and maiming enemies is terrible. Doing so to protect innocent life and safeguard non-combatants is necessary when the aggressors won't respond to anything else… The perpetrators of evil force the choice of violence, not the soldiers.

  16. I don't know of one peace activist who finds war more loathsome as any war veteran does. And NO ONE has more repulsion at seeing another battlefield than someone who's lived through one.
And I say that as a combat veteran.
I would LOVE to see 'peace' break out, but 'peace' is a never to be realized ideal. Why? Three reasons:
    1. Human beings are a conflict-ridden species. There has NEVER been a day when a human being hasn't killed another. Furthermore, ever since we took up farming as a species in 7000 BC, there has never been a day where the killing of another human being wasn't organized at the governmental level. That is a stone-cold historic truth. Deal with it.
    2. Peace requires reason, while war is an emotion driven response to a threat.
    3. Earth is a finite place. There isn't an 'unlimited' supply of ANYTHING, not even sunshine [stars have a limited lifespan, just like everything else] and the more I have, the less you get. The only thing human beings have ever been able to produce in an unlimited supply is stupidity.
Peace is like 'safety' or the Easter Bunny: a childhood myth. Anything good has to be defended, as Publius Renatus said in 'De Re Militari', "Si vis pace, para bellum"
And the entirety of human history bears my opinion out. Until you can change the very basis of human nature, you will have war.

  17. The Asian chick is kinda cringey with the forced positivity but the rest were really reasonable people. It's on of the few videos where you actually see people coming to a common ground

  18. "So many jobs why this one?"
Because you want world peace just like most, too achieve that you need too remove the opposite mind set hosts.

  19. What is this standing in the back, ask question and two people walk up and answer it? Why not have them all sit, ask the question and get everybody’s take.

  20. Peace activists need not search for middle ground with some of us.
The fact that some of us have gone to war, does not mean we liked it.
Most all of us, hated it.

  21. The thing i love most about this video is that the peace activist side didnt treat the veterans horribly. They gave them respect and were open to listen to their point of views. Beautiful

  22. dude with the long hair and beard is a real one. Out of all of them, when he says that he would die for peace, i believe him

  23. Only when people truly understand each other & live in harmony is the day for the peace. Until keep believing that there is a peace someday in far future…

  24. Brainwashe is the key to make someone be committed to you and die or lose fellow friends and go through hell… And boy!! Hell is a place you don't want to be. The pron is that through Brainwashe you can do things you never even imagined that you could do… con's some times this thing you are doing is just wrong in every possible way!

  25. I don’t want people to take this the wrong way, but I don’t want a truly peaceful world. It doesn’t allow us to advance as quickly as we have from conflict and I know a lot of people who would be dead if the world was peaceful. Not to mention it’s kind of boring to have peace.

  26. These Peace Activists live in a safe country of freedom and civil rights because of these Soliders sacrificing their lives for this and then these activists come and complain

  27. Not trying to diss vets here, but sometimes getting labeled a vet just because someone got DD-214 with full honours just for being a desk jockey is sort of stretching it.

  28. Never a member of the armed forces but did conceder it .an thank you to Americans that have with out you,s are country would not be what it is an has always been . might sound cheesey but it is the land of opportunity .yes has issues but compaired to other countries we are lucky an its embarrassing to disrespect it so freely with no consequences need especially protesters who somehow forget why they can voice there insane opinions

  29. World peace just means human peace, but what about the forces of nature, from diseases to natural disasters to famine. War is a reaction to a certain event(most of the time) to a growing population in need of resources and land, war is more of a symptom and you can't cure a disease by stopping its symptoms. World peace is impossible, and actually makes no sense when thought through. What about the time when we conquered the world of animals, is that peaceful. If we were peaceful we would be exstint. Im not pro or anti war but its in our nature

  30. Earth’s population was around 7.53 billion in 2017 so it will be more now. I can’t remember whether it’s 1 out of 100 or 4 out of 100 are psychopaths but either way with that maths world peace is not possible. It was a actually a good video but I have got to say anyone with that level of delusion is clinically mentally ill.

  31. I'm all for world peace. I'm against all war. There's no such thing as a justifiable war. However, I do support our soldiers but I do want them to be used as a self defense force rather than deployed overseas. If that were to happen, it would make our veterans much happier. There would be less veteran suicides too.

  32. bro I watched too many animes,
Those who stand at the top can decide the definition of "evil" | Justice will triumph, you say? | Of course it will! | Because the winners will become justice! – Doflamingo Donquixote

  33. The peace activist are the kind we need more of today because they are understanding and are able to see both sides of the coin.

  34. Peace activists need to come to KC and see what the streets is like. Peace isn’t coming any time soon people get over it. Since the beginning of the US we have always had war. It’s just not happening soon.

  35. I love the men and women and the sacrifices they make for our country, but we all want to see them home, safe and sound. It’s the ambitious leaders of one side of a war that brings both sides into the conflict.

  36. I am annoyed that people are willing to tell veterans what they did was wrong. They did what they were told to do and many of them fought for just causes.

  37. Sadly peace will never be an option to the entire world. There will always be some kind of sadist dictator out there, and there's not much we can do about that. War is inevitable, however much we all hate it. To get peace, there will be violence. The only reason there are soldiers is in attempt to obtain peace.

  38. since dawn of mankind we´ve never had world peace. Not before or after our schoolsystems and indoctrination. World peace is in my opinion against human nature otherwise it would´ve occured at some point already.

  39. Most soldiers these days know war is unnecessary and our government is corrupt but let's face it, military is kinda a poor man's career. If your rich and or wealthy with a 2 parent households and your dreams are to join the military you're a fool

  40. I found hard to believe for these people who agree with "I would die for peace" … Personally, it kinda hypocritical for them to say.
